  • 2 cups sugar
  • ⅓ cup lemon juice

That’s it! Just five simple ingredients to make this amazing jam.

The Recipe How-To

Step 1: Preparing the Ingredients

Before starting on the recipe, make sure to prepare all the ingredients first. To make this tomato and passionfruit jam recipe, you will need the following:

  • 1 kg ripe tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 large green apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1 ⅓ cup passionfruit pulp (about 10 passionfruits)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • ⅓ cup lemon juice

Step 2: Cooking the Jam

In a large saucepan, combine the chopped tomatoes and green apples. Place the saucepan on top of another pan with water, covering it completely. Bring it to a boil and cook on low heat, stirring often for 25 minutes or until the fruit is pulpy.

Step 3: Adding the Passionfruit Pulp

Once the fruit mixture is pulpy, stir in the passionfruit pulp and lemon juice. Then add the sugar and stir until it dissolves.

Step 4: Simmering

Simmer the mixture for about 45 minutes until it thickens, stirring occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the bottom. You will know that it’s done when it has become sticky and jam-like.

Step 5: Testing the Jam

To check if the jam is ready, take a spoonful of it and put it on a plate. Leave it for a few seconds to cool, then push it with your finger. If it wrinkles, it means it has set and the jam is ready.

Step 6: Canning the Jam

While the jam is still hot, pour it into sterilized jars and seal them tightly. This recipe makes about 4 cups of tomato passionfruit jam. You can enjoy it on toast or use it as a condiment for your favorite dishes.

Congratulations, you have successfully made your homemade passionfruit and tomato jam!

Make-Ahead, Storing and Reheating

This tomato and passionfruit jam recipe is perfect for making ahead of time and storing for later use. Once you’ve made the jam, you can store it in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

To reheat the jam, simply transfer it to a saucepan and heat it on low heat, stirring occasionally until it’s heated through. You can also reheat it in the microwave, but be sure to stir it every 30 seconds.

If you want to store the jam for longer periods of time, you can also can it using a water bath canning method. This will allow you to store the jam for up to a year.

To can the jam, sterilize your jars and lids and then fill them with the hot jam, leaving about 1/4 inch of headspace. Wipe the rims clean and then place the lids on top, tightening the bands until they’re snug. Place the jars in a large pot of boiling water and process for 10 minutes. Remove the jars from the water and let them cool completely before storing them in a cool, dry place.

When you’re ready to use the jam, simply open the jar and enjoy it on your favorite bread, crackers, or as a topping for your favorite dessert. The possibilities are endless with this delicious and unique tomato and passionfruit jam.

Tips for Perfect Results

To ensure the perfect batch of tomato and passionfruit jam, consider these tips to make the process smoother and the results more delicious.

Firstly, choose ripe tomatoes and green apples for this recipe. The sweetness of the fruits will determine the final taste of the jam. When selecting the ingredients, look for ones that are free of blemishes or soft spots. They should be firm to the touch and have a vibrant color.

Next, make sure to chop the tomatoes and apples into small, even pieces. This will help them cook evenly and create a smooth texture throughout the jam. If the pieces are too large, they may not break down fully and create a chunky jam.

When cooking the jam, use a large saucepan or boiler to prevent overflowing. Cook over low heat, stirring often, for 25 minutes or until the fruits are pulpy. Stir in the passionfruit pulp and lemon juice, and continue cooking until the mixture thickens.

To test if the jam is ready, place a small spoonful on a cold plate and wait for it to cool. If it forms a skin and wrinkles when pushed with your finger, then it’s ready. If it’s still runny, continue cooking and test again after a few minutes.

Once the jam is ready, let it cool for a few minutes before transferring it to sterilized jars. This will prevent the jars from cracking due to the sudden temperature change. Also, use a funnel to pour the jam into the jars, leaving about 1/4 inch of headspace.

Lastly, store the jam in a cool, dark place and consume within six months. Refrigerate after opening and use within two weeks. This will ensure the jam stays fresh and maintains its flavor.

By following these tips, you’ll be able to create a delicious batch of tomato and passionfruit jam that’s perfect for spreading on toast, topping on yogurt, or even as a glaze for meat dishes.

Bottom Line

In conclusion, this Tomato and Passionfruit Jam recipe is a delectable treat that is sure to impress any guest. It’s perfect for adding a burst of flavor to your toast, scones, or even as a glaze for meats. With the perfect balance of sweetness and tanginess, this jam will leave your taste buds wanting more.
